Three Sets of Images, One Enjoyable Evening to Start the Year

by admin | 16 Jan 2026

We opened 2026 with our Monochrome Print and PDI evening, originally scheduled for October but moved after our judge was taken ill. It made for a busy start to the year. Even so, it was a pleasure to welcome Ian Brash back to the club and into our new home at St Patrick’s Church Centre.

We kicked off the evening with the print competition, which ran smoothly and set a positive tone. A technical hiccup then held up the start of the PDIs, but once everything was sorted Ian took us through the full set of entries with his usual clarity. He offered thoughtful observations on every image and kept the pace steady so we still finished on time. A few comments were a touch direct, but members took them in good humour and there was plenty to learn from the judging.

Three Sets of Images, One Enjoyable Night

Ian reviewed three groups of work:

  • our combined Print class
  • the Standard PDI class
  • the Advanced PDI class

For each section, he held back a selection of images to highlight and then chose 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, along with a number of Highly Commended and Commended photographs.

Monochrome Print Competition

The Monochrome Print competition is an open class, so everyone is welcome to take part. Below you’ll find the images that were held back on the night and awarded placings. There’s also a link at the bottom that takes you to the full gallery so you can enjoy all the entries.
