Join Our Club

Prospective members are very welcome to come along to three consecutive meetings to get a feel for what we do and see whether our mix of photography, learning, and friendly conversation suits you. There is no pressure to decide straight away.

A committee member will be happy to greet you, introduce you to others, and make sure you feel at home. If you already know someone in the club, they will almost certainly be there to say hello too.

Our members are a supportive bunch, and you will find plenty of people willing to share ideas, answer questions, or offer gentle guidance if you want it. Whether you are just starting out or have been taking photos for years, you will be welcomed as part of the community.

When and Where We Meet

We meet at 8pm on the 1st, 3rd, and (when they occur) 5th Wednesday evenings from September to mid‑June at St Patrick’s Centre, Park Hill Road, Wallington, SM6 0RZ. On the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays, we get together online via Zoom.

Our in-person meetings are held in the ground floor conference room at St Patrick's Centre. You will find it towards the back of the building on the right, just before the kitchen area. When you arrive, look for the entrance to St Patrick’s Centre just to the right of the church.

The venue is easy to reach by public transport, with bus stops close by and Wallington station around a ten‑minute walk away.

Free parking is available in the church car park for members and guests. Spaces are limited, including two disabled bays, but there is usually good on‑street parking in the surrounding roads.

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Do you welcome beginners?

Absolutely. We welcome anyone with an interest in photography, whatever your experience or confidence level. If you enjoy taking pictures and want to learn, share ideas, and improve at your own pace, you will get a lot out of our programme and the friendly experience within the club.

I can’t commit to attending a meeting every week

No problem at all. Our programme includes talks, demonstrations, member evenings, friendly competitions, and regular photowalks. You are welcome to pick and choose whatever fits your schedule and interests. There is no pressure to attend every week — just join in when you can.

When does my membership expire?

Your membership lasts for 12 months and renews on the anniversary of the day you joined. Our system will send you a reminder email 28 days before your renewal is due, and another one 7 days before if the fee has not yet been paid.

If it completely slips your mind, a final reminder will be sent 28 days after your membership has expired.

Can I try out a meeting or two?

Of course. Most people like to get a feel for the club before deciding whether to join, and you are very welcome to do the same.

You can drop in on any Wednesday evening and say hello. If you let our membership secretary know you are coming, we will make sure someone is ready to greet you and introduce you around so you feel at home from the start.

You are welcome to come along to up to three consecutive meetings to see how we work, meet a few members, and decide whether the club feels right for you.

When you decide to join, we will ask you to complete a simple form so we can get to know you a little better.

Are there any restrictions?

If you are under eighteen, you are very welcome to visit, but you will need to be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult.

Do I need an expensive camera?

Not at all. At our club, you are welcome with whatever you like to shoot with. Some of our members use mirrorless or DSLR cameras, others enjoy the simplicity of a compact camera, and plenty create brilliant images on their phones. A few still love experimenting with film too.

What matters to us is the enjoyment of taking photos, not the price of your kit. You will find people at every level, using all sorts of equipment, and producing work they are proud of.

If you are ever thinking about adding to your gear, there is a huge amount of friendly knowledge in the room. Members are always happy to share their experiences with new or second‑hand equipment, so you can make choices that feel right for you.

Everyone is welcome, and every camera is welcome.
