This week’s speaker was a real treat for members! Stan Farrow FRPS EFIAP DPAGB captivated members with his appropriately titled talk “An Abstract Talk” during which he not only shared many images from his fantastic portfolio, but also talked members through the techniques he used to create them.  Many images required very little by way of equipment .. some strips of paper, a crumpled up plastic bag, a DVD, a leaf or a feather .. but the results were beautiful and award-winning abstract images. 

Abstract is typically a genre that doesn’t do well in club competitions as judges often say they want “something for their eye to rest on” .. but who cares about that .. Stan quite rightly reminded us all that photography should be about what we enjoy rather than what a judge is going to like .. that message resonated loud and clear with me and I signed off from the call feeling extremely motivated and excited about the prospect of diving in and having a go!  A really great evening!
